Why I Still Love Coaching After All These Years

After this many years in the industry, people sometimes ask me:

“Do you ever get bored?”

It’s a fair question.

Same gym.
Similar exercises.
Similar goals.

But the truth is — I’ve never loved coaching more than I do now.

And it’s not because of bigger lifts or dramatic transformations.

It’s because of the small, steady wins most people don’t see.

It’s Not About the Highlight Moments

Sure, I’ve worked with athletes chasing performance goals.

I’ve helped people train for marathons.
I’ve worked alongside physical therapists after surgeries.
I’ve coached people through major body composition changes.

Those moments are rewarding.

But what keeps me coming back every day isn’t the dramatic stuff.

It’s this:

Watching someone who once felt unsure…
walk into the gym confidently.

Seeing someone who used to struggle with basic movement…
now move smoothly and pain-free.

Hearing someone say,
“I feel stronger in everyday life.”

That’s what sticks.

Coaching Isn’t About Pushing — It’s About Guiding

There’s a misconception that coaching is about intensity.

Yelling reps.
Chasing fatigue.
Pushing harder.

But real coaching — the kind that lasts — is about paying attention.

It’s noticing when someone’s shoulder is tight.
It’s adjusting a plan when their sleep’s been off.
It’s knowing when to push and when to pull back.

Over time, I’ve realized that the best results don’t come from pressure.

They come from partnership.

Every Person Is Different

What keeps this job interesting is that no two people move the same way.

Different histories.
Different injuries.
Different schedules.
Different stress levels.
Different motivations.

That means there’s no autopilot.

Every program needs thought.
Every session requires awareness.

And that challenge? I love it.

The Long Game Is the Reward

The most fulfilling part of coaching isn’t what happens in month one.

It’s what happens in year three.

It’s when someone says:

“I never thought I’d stick with something this long.”

It’s when strength becomes normal.
When mobility improves quietly.
When fitness stops feeling like a phase and starts feeling like a lifestyle.

That’s not flashy.

But it’s powerful.

What Still Excites Me

I still study.
I still learn.
I still look for ways to help people move better.

Because the human body is endlessly interesting.

And helping someone feel capable in their own body never gets old.

Not at 30.
Not at 50.
Not at 70.

The goal isn’t perfection.

It’s longevity.

Why It Matters

I don’t coach because I love workouts.

I coach because I love seeing what happens when someone realizes:

“I’m stronger than I thought.”

That moment never gets boring.

If you’re thinking about starting — or restarting — just know this:

You don’t have to be at a certain level.

You just have to be willing to begin.

And we’ll take it from there.
