Something I Tell Almost Every New Client

From the Gym Floor — Coach Brad
One of the first things I tell almost every new client usually surprises them.
It’s not about how often they should train.
It’s not about what they should eat.
And it’s definitely not about how hard they need to push.
What I usually say is this:
“You don’t need to be in shape to start. You just need to start.”
After more than a decade of coaching, I’ve learned that most people don’t walk into the gym feeling confident. They walk in feeling unsure. Unsure if they belong. Unsure if they’re doing things “right.” Unsure if they’ll be able to stick with it this time.
And that hesitation? That’s normal.
You’re Not the Only One Feeling This Way
I see it every week — people who:
Think they need to get fitter before working with a trainer
Feel behind because they’ve taken breaks in the past
Worry they’ll be judged for not knowing what to do
Here’s the truth:
Nobody starts confident. Confidence is built by showing up.
Progress doesn’t begin when everything feels perfect. It begins when you take that first imperfect step.
What We Actually Focus on at the Start
When someone begins training with us, we’re not trying to overhaul their life overnight. We’re focused on a few simple things:
Moving well and safely
Building strength that supports everyday life
Creating consistency that feels realistic
Making training something you don’t dread
That’s it.
We don’t expect you to love every workout. We don’t expect perfect weeks. We just want you moving forward — even if that means some weeks look better than others.
Progress Isn’t Linear — and That’s Okay
One of the biggest misconceptions about fitness is that it’s supposed to be a straight line. It’s not.
There will be weeks where:
Work gets hectic
Sleep is off
Motivation dips
Life just gets in the way
That doesn’t mean you’re failing. It means you’re human.
The people who make progress long-term aren’t the ones who never miss a session — they’re the ones who don’t quit when things get messy.
If You’re Waiting for the “Right Time”
Let me save you some time:
There’s no perfect moment to start.
There’s just now — wherever you are, however you feel, with whatever energy you have.
And that’s enough.
A Note From Me to You
If you’ve been thinking about getting back into training, starting for the first time, or just needing some structure again — you don’t have to figure it out on your own.
That’s what coaching is for.
If you want to come in, move a bit, ask questions, and see how things feel, you’re always welcome to book a free workout with us. No pressure. No expectations. Just a place to start.
We’ll meet you exactly where you are.
